Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the likes of Brazilian side Palmeiras to sign a talented Barcelona striker who is currently on loan at LaLiga rivals Real Betis in the January transfer window.

Vitor Roque is the player in question, with a transfer race hotting up for the 19-year-old after his impressive start to life on loan at Betis.

Even if the Brazilian has had a difficult time establishing himself at The Camp Nou, his six goals and two assists for Betis this season have demonstrated why Roque has been praised so highly in the past.

The Brazilian may be permanently signed by Beits for €25 million (£20 million or $26 million) in the summer, and the Spanish team was apparently prepared to give Tottenham a warning.

Furthermore, Spurs’ pursuit of the 19-year-old is reportedly intensifying, according to the most recent report from Estadio Deportivo.

The Catalan team is willing to sell Roque in the new year because it is well known that cash-strapped Barcelona needs to raise money in January in order to sign the players they want and register other players in their squad, such Dani Olmo.

Palmeiras has reportedly already submitted a proposal of €20 million (£16.5 million or $21 million) for the teenager, stating that “Tottenham’s pounds are putting pressure on all parties.”

The report adds that the Premier League side are willing to offer Roque a ‘tempting salary’ and that the striker’s camp are ‘appreciative’ of the interest shown by Tottenham and others.

However, at this stage, Roque is not thinking about leaving Betis mid-season and wants to have a strong second half of the campaign in Seville, complicating Spurs’ pursuit as a result.
